This month, we’re diving into the vibrant world of artist Alma Thomas! With spring right around the corner, her colorful and dynamic art is the perfect inspiration.

Alma Thomas (1891–1978) was a groundbreaking African American artist known for her vibrant, abstract paintings inspired by nature and the cosmos. A former educator, she gained national recognition in her later years, becoming the first Black woman to have a solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum. Her signature mosaic-like brushstrokes and bold colors continue to inspire generations of artists.

Join us for a captivating evening of artistry inspired by the timeless works of Sandro Botticelli at Studio Hue 53, in collaboration with Raw Figs Pop Up. Kindle your creative passion at our Valentine’s Day figure drawing event as we channel Botticelli’s divine beauty with live models posed to match the Renaissance masterpiece. This event is for loved ones, friends, and connections of all kind to celebrate creativity and the art within every form of love.

The figure drawing session hosted by Raw Figs x Studio Hue 53, with a nude models. We ask that minors please come with your parent/guardian or be sure to have our guardian consent form signed prior to attending.

We rely on your donations to keep Raw Figs continuing happening for the community so we may be able to purchase materials, pay the model, cover props and location costs, as well as paying our part-time employees. 

Our drawing session will begin at 6:45pm and end at 8:45pm.

Materials are available for those that need on a first come, first serve basis, but we always encourage everyone to bring their own when possible.

The Reflection Diaries II Exhibition

Experience Palmas de Luna’s Pop-Up art exhibition December 27th +28th from 7PM - 10PM called “The Reflection Diaries II” at Studio Hue 53 located in the heart of Miami Springs!

The exhibition focuses on the raw reflections by local artist in Miami. You will step into an exhibition of artwork only on paper as if torn right out of a sketchbook. You will discover the underground art scene, full of raw emotion, and untold stories.

The Reflection Diaries II is an exhibition where artists are given the opportunity to showcase a perspective that only the city has revealed through a range of media like drawing, painting, photography, collage, diary entry, poetry, and mix media. It captures how the artists observe the interplay of light, time, and emotion. Through their work, they invite us to see an explore the complexities of modern life.

This exhibition is also a chance to pause and reflect on the year gone by. Each piece a reflection that serves as a window into their creative process. Where thought, memory, and visual language converge. In the process, we gain insight into the ways that Miami’s vibrant landscape—its landscapes, culture, and atmosphere—serve as both a mirror and a source of inspiration. This exhibition offers a multi-layered journey that invites visitors to pause, look closer, and engage with the subtle, yet powerful, echoes of light, time, and experience.

A modern twist on a regular vision boarding experience, this guided workshop will allow attendees to manifest their 2025 visions and goals in a new, fresh & tangible way.. via the medium of zines. 

[ Zines are self-published, non-commercial booklets or magazines. originating in the 1930’s, and gaining popularity in the 70’s and 80’s, zines focus on niche interests, personal experiences, or social issues + can include writing, art, and photography ]

Attendees will be able to create their own personal zines (aka perzines) from scratch and craft their 2025 goals and intentions with the help of an 8-step worksheet with gratitude prompts, journal entries and much more!

Discovering Oil Painting: A Creative Journey for Beginners

Join us for our Oil Painting Workshop every Saturday from November 2nd to 23rd! The sessions will run from 2 PM to 5 PM, led by renowned Miami-based artist, Natalie Galindo.

This 4 week workshop is designed for beginners who are interested in learning the fundamentals of oil painting. Participants will explore the medium of oil paints, from basic techniques and color mixing to creating a complete painting. No prior experience is required. The focus will be on building confidence, encouraging creativity, and developing essential skills.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

  • Understand the basics of oil painting, including materials, tools, and techniques.

  • Develop foundational skills in color theory, blending, and brushwork.

  • Complete an original oil painting on canvas.

  • Gain confidence to pursue oil painting as a hobby or artistic practice.

Nov 2: Getting Started with Oil Painting

  • Introduction to Materials: Overview of brushes, canvases, oil paints, and mediums.

  • Understanding Color Theory: Basics of the color wheel, primary, secondary, and complementary colors.

  • Brush Techniques & Textures: Learn essential brushstrokes, blending, and creating texture with oil paints.

  • Planning Your Painting: Sketching the composition, selecting a color palette and projecting on canvas

Nov 24: Finalizing a Simple Oil Painting

  • Review: Discuss artists known for mastering still lifes and their techniques.

  • Finalize: Complete final painting project.

  • Final Project: Group Critique and Reflection: Sharing completed works and constructive feedback session.

*We recommend you purchase materials at Jerry's Art Supply Wholesale Club of Miami located at 6448B S Dixie Hwy, South Miami, FL 33143. If you have a preferred art store, you can also purchase materials from there.*

  • Windsor Newton Oil Color Painting Basic Set, 10 x 21ml Tubes 

*If you rather not buy a set, we recommend purchasing the following colors: cadmium yellow pale hue, cadmium red deep hue, french ultramarine, phthalo blue, virdian hue, burnt umber, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, ivory black, titanium white

  • 2 canvases (can be 11x14, 16x20 or 18x18)

About Natalie Galindo

Natalie Galindo is a Miami native with Cuban-Colombian parents. She currently works and studies at the University of Miami in Florida pursuing her Masters Degree in Painting. She received her Bachelor’s degree of Fine Arts at the University of Florida in Gainesville with a focus in painting.

She been part of multiple groups and exhibitions including an Art Basel group exhibition N2GETHER at Miami Art Society in 2021. She has commissioned private and public mural work in Miami and assistance Artists such as Rey Jaffet at the Four Seasons Hotel in Miami Beach. She is represented by Miami Art Society Gallery and revived the painting award at the Lowe Museum of Art Annual Student Juried Exhibition in 2023 and an honorable mention aware in 2017 for the JF Gallery Annual Juried Art Exhibition in West Palm, FL. In 2019 she was for of the Void Projects residency program. Natalie also has two publications, Coin Toss Magazine in 2021 and Miambiance in 2015.

We'll be doing a self-guided figure drawing session with a dressed model amongst the market, surrounded by some of Miami's favorites.

Our drawing session will begin at 7:15pm and end at 8:45pm.

The figure drawing session hosted by us, Raw Figs, with nude models. We ask that minors please come with your parent/guardian or be sure to have our guardian consent form signed prior to attending.

Spooky Stitches: Crafting Mysterious Rag Dolls

Welcome to Spooky Stitches: Crafting Mysterious Rag Dolls at Studio Hue 53! Join us on Sat, Oct 05, 2024 at 2:00 PM for a fun and spooky crafting event. Get into the Halloween spirit by creating your very own mysterious rag doll with our expert instructor, Nichole Garcia.

Dolls bring centuries worth of comfort, hold magical powers, or have been a cozy companion to nurture and be nurtured by.

This is a droplet of what dolls symbolize throughout various cultures. Dolls are known to be talismanic heirlooms and are used to teach children about the connection of natural and spiritual worlds like the Kachina dolls by the Hopi people.


Guests will be making these out of scraps of fabric with two options available:

1. A no-sew rag doll (wonderful for beginners)

2. Sewing mini-rag doll (depending on comfort level of sewing skills)

We will briefly go over cloth dolls and their roles in different cultures while also feeling out what meaning yours will contain.

This in-person event will take place at Studio Hue 53, so come ready to get crafty and have a great time. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to make something special for the spooky season!

*It is suggested to bring a piece of your own cloth + pin anything you would like to add that would make the rag doll a bit more personal.

*All materials will be provided + some sewing experience is beneficial for the mini-rag doll but not necessary.
